    About the ride

Take a 7-hour trip from Cuenca, a small town spread across a steep hill. Cuenca town has two parts - the new city in the south-west and the old city which is separated by the river of Huécar.

During this experience, you will discover the most beautiful places in the town of Cuenca, such as the hanging houses. This experience is even more special because you can customize every aspect of it. You are free to choose not only the places you would like to visit but also adjust the time spent at each location.

On the day of the trip, the Welcome driver will pick you up from your accommodation in Madrid and give the complete tour in an air-conditioned, spacious car. Upon your request, it is possible to have a lunch or dinner at the local restaurant, recommended by the Welcome Driver.  At each stop, your friendly driver will answer all the questions you may have, share the local knowledge and more tips about each destination.

In less than 2 hours you will reach Cuenca, a small but unique town located 170 km East of the capital Madrid.

Cuenca is best known for its hanging houses, dating back to the 15th century. Today travelers can see only a few houses that remained in place within the time. The small group of houses with wooden balconies is one of the most famous in Cuenca. You can reach those by walking up the narrow and steep streets. Even though it takes an effort, the view from the top is fascinating.

The Museum of Spanish Abstract Art is another place that is worth the visit. The building of the museum is made of stones and looks like from the Middle Ages. It contains collections of Spanish artists who created in the middle of the 20th century. You will find works of Pablo Serrano, Fernando Zobel, and more.

The town of Cuenca also has a beautiful 60-meter-length San Pablo Bridge made of wood and iron from which you can see the famous hanging houses and take great pictures.

You could also stop at the Clock Tower of Cuenca and admire the stunning views of the city.

Cuenca Cathedral is a religious building that draws the travelers' attention. The cathedral is one of the earliest and the finest examples of Gothic architecture in Spain. Both the outer and the inner facades of the church are breathtaking.

Of course, one of the most beautiful things to do in Cuenca is to stroll in the center of the old town. Many restaurants and cafeterias are waiting for both the locals and the travelers. During your walk int the town, you will see how the local life looks in this province of Spain.

    Frequently asked questions
    Expand

Can I customize the tour based on my needs?

Of course, that is one of the main benefits of having a Welcome experience. You can customize every last bit of the experience, from points of the visit to time spent per landmark to adding in an extra food stop.

Will there be an official tour guide?

An official tour guide is not included because the overall experience is centered around the driver and the local’s perspective. Although the drivers are very knowledgeable regarding the points of visit, at no point can they be compared with a licensed tour guide who can give more in-depth information regarding historical facts and information. If you would like to include an official tour guide in the experience please let us know via email after the booking is completed.

    What happens after I book?

Once you complete your booking you will receive an email with more details about the tour, your Welcome driver, and any more information you need to know regarding this experience. Feel free to reach out to our customer service team at hello@welcomepickups.com for any specific questions regarding the experience.

    Summer Essentials

In the summer months, the sun is especially strong (even on cloudy days) so we recommend that you wear a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself. Also, be sure to drink enough water throughout the day to stay hydrated.

    Local Currency

We recommend you always keep local currency on you (euro) as many local merchants do not accept cards as payment.

    Accessibility & Special Needs

Should anyone in your group have special needs or have advanced accessibility requirements, please specify upon booking and we will make sure to accommodate your needs and customize your tour accordingly.

    Comfortable Clothes & Shoes

We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing and good walking shoes since certain areas may have uneven or rocky ground.

    Bring your Camera

Photography is permitted in most historical sites unless otherwise mentioned.

    Dress Modestly for Religious Monuments

We recommend dressing modestly (covering your knees and shoulders) when visiting the religious monuments.
