    About the ride

Your day will begin with a personal pickup by your English-speaking driver from your hotel or apartment in Madrid.

The driver will suggest the route of the trip with the key attractions that are worth the visit. Since this experience is a personal tour, the driver will stop at any attraction of your choice and spend there as much time as you wish.

To get a better picture of this 6-hour trip, we outline the preliminary route of the 'Half-Day Trip From Madrid to Ávila.'

In less than 1.5 hours you will reach Ávila. The town, situated more than 1 km above the sea level, is the highest provincial capital in Spain.

There are many places to visit in Ávila. The Walls of Ávila will capture your attention right after you step out of the car. These fortifications built in the Middle Ages are one of the most complete in the whole country. Their huge size and precise shapes are something we see only in the movies.

Ávila Cathedral is another architectural masterpiece in the town which attracts travelers from all over the world. This Catholic church impresses by the detailed facades and the gothic shapes. It represents the Gothic and Romanesque architectural styles and is among the oldest ones in Spain.

Santo Tomas Royal Monastery is also worth the visit. It has three magnificent cloisters (Noviciado, Silencio, and Reyes), the latter being the largest of the three. Reyes cloister is also a home for Oriental Art Museum.

You should also see one of the best examples of the Romanesque architecture in the country - Basilica de San Vicente

You will see the spectacular panoramic views of the town and the surrounding area from the small hill with The Four Posts. This little shire is a gem of Ávila, visited by thousands of travelers and beloved by locals.

    Frequently asked questions
    Expand

Can I customize the tour based on my needs?

Of course, that is one of the main benefits of having a Welcome experience. You can customize every last bit of the experience, from points of the visit to time spent per landmark to adding in an extra food stop.

Will there be an official tour guide?

An official tour guide is not included because the overall experience is centered around the driver and the local’s perspective. Although the drivers are very knowledgeable regarding the points of visit, at no point can they be compared with a licensed tour guide who can give more in-depth information regarding historical facts and information. If you would like to include an official tour guide in the experience please let us know via email after the booking is completed.

Do I need to be in a good physical shape?

The drivers are trained to adapt the experience depending on the type of participants. Whether you have kids or elders participating, the drivers know exactly how to handle special requests and provide an enjoyable experience accordingly.

    What happens after I book?

Once you complete your booking you will receive an email with more details about the tour, your Welcome driver, and any more information you need to know regarding this experience. Feel free to reach out to our customer service team at hello@welcomepickups.com for any specific questions regarding the experience.

    Summer Essentials

In the summer months, the sun is especially strong (even on cloudy days) so we recommend that you wear a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself. Also, be sure to drink enough water throughout the day to stay hydrated.

    Accessibility & Special Needs

Should anyone in your group have special needs or have advanced accessibility requirements, please specify upon booking and we will make sure to accommodate your needs and customize your tour accordingly.

    Comfortable Clothes & Shoes

We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing and good walking shoes since certain areas may have uneven or rocky ground.

    Bring your Camera

Photography is permitted in most historical sites unless otherwise mentioned.

    Local Currency

We recommend you always keep local currency on you (euro) as many local merchants do not accept cards as payment.

    Dress Modestly for Religious Monuments

We recommend dressing modestly (covering your knees and shoulders) when visiting the religious monuments.
