I highly recommend this wine tour in Santorini. Our guide was perfect and the small group of 5 people was small enough to ask questions and also keep the tour moving. The information about the wineries was very inclusive and the last stop with wines, small plates and the beautiful Santorini sunset was incredible, This was very much worth the cost and I say don't miss it!

About the ride
If you want an in-depth look at the most popular vineyards in Santorini, while still getting a taste of this island's fascinating history, then the ‘Santorini History and Wine Tasting Experience’ is the tour for you. At the beginning of the tour, your Welcome driver will pick you up directly from your accommodation and take you on your tailor-made journey through the most iconic, historically significant, and beautiful sites in Santorini. Although your tour is completely customizable and points of interest can be added or taken away, the following itinerary is one we suggest.
You will start your tour at the fascinating Akrotiri Excavations, a prehistoric Bronze Age city that is said to be the inspiration behind the mysterious city of Atlantis. What makes this site so interesting is that a volcanic eruption, over 3600 years ago, covered the city of Akrotiri in ash, meaning everything was frozen in time at the exact moment the volcano erupted. At this site, you will have the opportunity to take a journey into the past and see the magnificent wall paintings, elaborate drainage systems, and excavated furniture vessels of the former settlement.

Driving around Santorini, you see the harsh scrubby landscape and lots of volcanic rock, so the idea of grapes surviving this harsh environment is in itself close to miraculous. The tour helped to explain the low profile vineyards and production, and we visited three with excellent pairings with various cheeses and meats (nibbles size, not a meal). The wines on Santorini are excellent, and George was a very knowledgable guide with perfect English and a genuine enthusiasm with a touch of humor. We did the highly recommended wine tour (totally agree), though for safety, take a jacket even if it seems hot when you start. The winds can be wicked and cold. Also, which I really appreciated, there was no sales pitch — often times, you end up placing orders, this was not the case. Very professional.
We had a fantastic day of wine tasting, learning and exploring various areas around Santorini. The mix of wines and various wineries along with a very pragmatic approach to wine tasting made the experience truly enjoyable. All of this was surrounded by fantastic vistas and scenery. We very much enjoyed the experience.
My husband and I took the wine tasting tour with George as our driver. This tour rivaled our wine tour experiences in Napa Valley this past May. Our guide was unbelievably knowledgeable about wine, having dedicated his life to the study of wine and sharing his passion as a teacher. I never would have imagined how important the wine industry is to the island. The grape growing process is unique due to the climate. All of the information was fascinating. The tasting was also exceptional as Evan demonstrated why food pairings make a difference in the taste of wine. He explained the science behind drinking wine that I will surely use going forward. And the sunset view was spectacular. Overall exceeded our expectations.
