Suggested Itinerary

Begin your full-day escape with a pickup from your accommodation in Auckland and head west toward the Waitākere Ranges. Your first stop is 1Arataki Visitor Centre (Waitākere Ranges), set high above forested valleys. Take in sweeping views, explore the carved entrance, and learn about Māori legends and native plant life from this elevated vantage point.

Continue deeper into the rainforest to 2Karekare Falls & Rainforest Walk. Enjoy a peaceful, easy walk through nikau palms and tree ferns before reaching the serene cascade hidden within the lush surroundings.

From there, travel onward to 3Karekare Beach. Here, black volcanic sands, rolling waves, and wind-shaped dunes create a raw and cinematic coastal landscape.

Next, visit 4Piha Beach & Lion Rock, one of New Zealand’s most iconic surf destinations. Take time to admire the dramatic setting, walk toward Lion Rock rising from the shore, or relax with a coffee or snack at a nearby café.

On the return journey, pause at 5Te Waha Point or Mercer Bay Loop, a dramatic coastal lookout where rugged cliffs and endless ocean views provide a quiet and striking final moment of your West Coast adventure.
