The temple was dedicated to the God of the sea, Poseidon, and was considered a sacred place of worship. Perched on the highest point of the rocky promontory and surrounded by 3 seas, it was an important maritime navigational point as well as a sign of hope for sailors returning to Athens after many days at sea. Not only can you explore the historical monuments on site, but the Cape also offers a spectacular panoramic view of the Aegean sea and nearby islands such as Kea, Kythnos, Serifos and Aigina.
